Identifying carers
In order to be able to offer carers support, professionals need to be able to identify carers. This can be difficult, as many carers don’t see themselves as carers. It can be difficult for them to see their caring role as separate from the relationship they have with the person they care for.

Even if a carer is managing now, it’s important to identify them so that they know what help is available. Nobody wants them to wait until their situation reaches a crisis point.

Carer awareness training
We can provide carer awareness training to staff and volunteers. This can include training to ward based hospital staff and in GP practices. Training includes:

  • local carer demographics
  • how caring affects a patient’s health
  • what support services are available for carers
  • how to refer to Carers Support Centre
  • how health professionals can support carers

Open session for professionals
We run monthly sessions for staff from external organisations. These are one hour long and take place at our office in Fishponds. Please use the form on this page to book a place. They cover:

  • carer awareness training
  • information about our services
