What happens when your caring role comes to an end?

Over time your caring role will change and may come to an end, sometimes because the person you care for dies. Whatever the circumstances this can leave a big gap in your life and bring very mixed emotions, and you may wonder what you need to do next, both in the short and long term.

Citizens Advice Bureau has lots of information here about how to cope with the immediate practicalities.

‘Tell us once’ is a service that lets you report a death to most government organisations in one go, including the Department for Work and Pensions, the DVLA, the tax office and local council. You can find out more here.

You may feel isolated after many years of caring. It can help to talk to people about how you feel. For further information around emotional and practical support for you please visit the ‘life after caring’ section of our website here.
