Kama McKenzie, Young Carers Service Manager 

Hello, I’m Kama and I’m the Service Manager for the Young Carers Team. I joined the Young Carers Team in July 2016. I have been working with young people (including young carers) since ever I was a young person myself! I love working on any job that makes a positive difference to young peoples lives. I am a parent carer for my eldest son.

I am slightly obsessed with the colour purple (you can always spot me because nearly all my clothes are purple) and I enjoy spending time with my family.

Carol Carter, South Glos Senior Young Carers Development Officer

Hello, I’m Carol and I’ve been working at Carers Support Centre since 1997. I support young carers and their families in South Glos offering one-to-one support and group activities.

In my spare time I enjoy the theatre, going to concerts and have a soft spot for musicals. I am also a carer for my Mum.

Katie Long, Bristol Young Carers Key Worker 

Hi, I’m Katie, I joined the team in June 2018 as a sessional worker and have since progressed as the Bristol Young Carers Key Worker. I have a background of working and volunteering in support services for adults and am really excited about taking the knowledge and skills I have built over the last ten years to work with Young Carers. I am passionate about helping Young Carers to  have a voice and to access life’s opportunities.

In my spare time I enjoy growing my own vegetables, cooking, walking and having a great time with my friends.

Gemma Sharland, Bristol Young Carers Key Worker

Hi, I’m Gem, I’m so excited to be joining the Young Carers team as a Keyworker! Previously, I was a teacher and an Inclusion Leader / SENCo. I love working with young people and their families and I am passionate about making a positive difference in the world.

In my spare time, I enjoy climbing, hikes, yoga, reading and anything active or adventurous with my friends and my dog!

Chris Chart, South Glos Young Carers Key Worker

Hello I’m Chris, I have been working for the Young Carers Team since 2017. I started working with young carers in Bristol and in July 2019 moved to work with young carers in South Gloucestershire. My background is in youth and community work and working with young people and families.

Outside of work I am a keen gardener and love being in the outdoors.

Vicki Houselander, Young Carers in Schools Development Worker

Hi, I’m Vicki, I’m really excited to be part of the Young Carers team and feel passionate about making a difference to young carers experience in education through the Young Carers in School Programme.

My background is in youth work and I have had great opportunities and experiences working with young people and their families including running a youth centre, supporting a youth board and working as a Family Support Worker.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, reading and being outdoors.

Sammie Blanchard, Young Carers Engagement and Involvement Activities Coordinator 

Hi, I’m Sammie, I have been volunteering with Young Carers since May 2016 and started as a Sessional Support Worker in January 2018. In October 2019, I have progressed as the Activities Coordinator. I love working with Young Carers.

In my spare time I enjoy cooking, going to the cinema and spending time with my family and friends.

Zoe Morgan, Young Carers Service Operational Support

Hello, I’m Zoe and I joined the Young Carers Team in 2014 as an Apprentice to complete my Level 2 NVQ Apprenticeship in Business & Administration. Following the completion of my Level 3 qualification in April 2018, I was lucky enough to join the team as the Young Carers Service Administrative Assistant and have since progressed as Operational Support.

In my spare time I enjoy watching TV series and listening to music. You could say I’m slightly obsessed with unicorns and drinking tea!

Lauren Anthony, Young Carers Administrative Apprentice

Hello, I’m Lauren and I’m excited about completing my apprenticeship as I really enjoyed business studies in school. On completion of my apprenticeship, I’d like to have a future career within the Young Carers Team.

In my spare time I enjoy relaxing at home, listening to music and caring for my two guinea pigs; Gerald and Clive.

Simone Baker, Young Carers Sessional Worker

Hello I’m Simone, I joined the team as a young carers sessional worker in February 2020. I am very passionate about working with children, young people and families and have done so for my whole career.

In my spare time, I enjoy cooking plant based meals, listening to music and dance fitness.

Alice Walker-Shakespeare, Young Carers Sessional Worker

Hi, I’m Alice. I joined the Young Carers team in August 2020 as a Sessional Key Worker. I have lots of experience working with young people, including young carers.

Outside of work I love baking for friends and family, getting lost in a book, and waiting for the sun to make an appearance so I can get away for a camping weekend!

Jyoti Aslam, Young Carers Sessional Worker

Hi, I’m Jyoti and have just joined Carers Support Centre as a sessional worker for South Glos. in August 2020.

My background is in Marketing and Psychology and I have worked with young people in various settings, including being a Teaching Assistant, Advocate for young people in care, Children’s Services Manager, and most recently I am due to start work as a Vulnerable Pupil Support Worker within a primary school in September.

Outside of work, I enjoy a busy family life and when possible, I love to read, cook, go for walks and generally try to keep fit!

I am very much looking forward to supporting young carers and have am thrilled to become part of an amazing and passionate team!
